KE's Gothic Wedding

How much fun are these Bride and Groom?? We had an amazing time stepping outside of the box and putting together an fantastically creative wedding for Kristi and Edward.

We want to start off by telling you a bit about our fabulous clients. Kristi came to us when they were engaged asking for help planning all the details of their wedding. After leaving our first meeting we were thrilled about working with them. Kristi was so warm and such an enthusiastic person. We loved all her ideas. Even more we loved that she wanted a wedding that wasn't traditional and was something we hadn't done before. Kristi wanted a Gothic Victorian type wedding. She wanted lots of black lace, black and white checkered pattern, black magic roses, graveyards, skeletons and lots of candle light. Although Kristi's theme was dark her personality certainly isn't!! Kristi is a beautiful person inside and out. Just being in the room with her will make you smile. She doesn't ever hold back! We had the pleasure of meeting Edward during the planning process and when they say opposites attract... they were talking about Kristi and Edward. Edward is a Doctor. He is the more quiet and reserved one of the two. He is the responsible and practical one. He really helps ground Kristi and Kristi pushes him to do new and exciting things. After spending time with the two of them you can really see how perfect of a match they are. We KNOW this couple is going to have a long and beautiful life together.

We wanted to start off with some Engagement pictures they did in a Brooklyn Cemetery. All Photos are done by Julia Skya whom is part of Jang Photographers http://www.jangphotographers.com/

Kristi got full hair and make up done for her shoot. She put together their outfits and props. She is very creative!!!

Now for the Wedding Photos.......

This is her gorgeous dress!!!!

All the women in the Bridal Party wore black feathers in their hair along with black dresses they were allowed to pick themselves. They all had fun with the theme and dressed the part!

Kristi wore black lace up shoes under her white dress.

The bouquets were Black Magic Roses and Burgundy Calla Lilies. The Bouquets were embellished with black feathers and black lace. Her bouquet had black lace that fell to the floor.

All Flowers were done by D for decor- Event Design and Decor

All Make up was done by My Pretty Committee

Kristi got ready at the posh Gramercy Park Hotel!!!

Kristi made the feather headpiece she wore the whole wedding day!

The groom looked oh, so handsome in black, white and silver.

Kristi wore striped black and white tights under her dress!

Her brother walked her down the gorgeous church aisle. Kristi and Edward chose to have large standing candelabras all down the aisle to add romantic candle light.

Kristi's little secret through the whole planning process was her dress. She told Edward she had bought a black dress to go with the theme. Edward being a little more traditional than Kristi was awe struck when he saw her in her white wedding dress at the church.

The chose to take pictures at Central Park, the fountain in front of Park Avenue Hotel and in the Brooklyn Bridge Park in DUMBO Brooklyn.

Kristi really is a natural in front of the camera!

Kristi and Edward looked at A LOT of venues with us. They decided on Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO Brooklyn. The space is usually used for performing arts. It is a very large and open space with cement walls, red leather booths and floating seating over a black ink pond (yes, inside the space!). It really is something you have to see with your own eyes. This place was perfect for their theme and even more perfect for all the performances they had planned because it also had a huge stage!

The tables were decorated with black lace, red rose petals, large standing candelabras and strings of pearls. The food was served family style with many middle eastern and Moroccan options.

Sweet Heart Table

Kristi is a very talented Belly Dancer and has worked with many great performers throughout NYC. So, she had to have a few performances on her special day. She had a belly dancer come in with a live snake!!!!

She also had an electric violinist come in and perform along with an Arabic singer!!

The cake!!! Blood and skeleton hands holding a heart if you can't make out the topper :)

We just love looking back over these pictures over and over again! This wedding was so amazing from the Bride and Groom, to the theme to all the wonderful performers.

Calling All The Socially Conscious

A new service called the Special E will repurpose leftovers from your event. The staff will deliver extra food to homeless shelters (or turn it into organic compost); recycle bottles and cans; take floral arrangements to nursing homes and hospitals, or candles to families facing a power loss after a natural disaster; and donate dresses to disadvantaged teens! How about that for doing your part!!!

Watch Your Step

Granted, you'll want to wait until your photographer gets fab shots of those Jimmy Choos before doing this...

BUT once it's been captured on film; scuff the soles of new shoes with sandpaper to create traction, preventing embarrassing tumbles when walking down the aisle to soon-to-be-hubby or dancing with the girls at your reception celebrating your new title!

Venues - "To Book or Not To Book!"

Once you've researched all the venues you want to visit, mapped it all out and made the appointments to visit them, arrive earlier than expected... Why? To speak to the staff walking around, interact with others in the space to see whether you get a better insight to how well things are run and how happy everyone is there. Then ask them something unrelated to the space, like "Do you know a great place to eat around here?". If their response is positive, they treat you well and appear happy to help, chances are your guests will have the same experience!
(Siting through their sales pitch just isn't the same!)

Groom's Cakes!!!

This trend is becoming more and more popular. The wedding day is no longer just about the bride. Many brides are telling their new hubby's just how much they love them by getting a surprise cake decorated in their favorite colors, sports teams or hobbies. These cakes are also made with their favorite flavors!!

Having two full cakes is often too much cake and often goes to waste.
Here are a few quick fixes

A few tip from the planners.....

1. How about using the Grooms Cake at the Rehearsal dinner? Make sure to take lots of pictures!

2. Use styrofoam covered in fondant for a couple of the tiers on the wedding cake or part of the Grooms cake. This is cost effective and you won't have a crazy amount of cake left over.

3. Be conservative....don't make the Groom's cake too big.

This Groom loves poker!
This cake designed by Sweet Creations by Susie also incorporated his sexy bride showing some leg.

This Groom is in the U.S. Marine Corps. He came dressed in uniform and after the church ceremony the Bride was welcomed into the Marine Corp family in a sword ceremony.

This Groom is a HUGE New York Jets fan.
This cake was designed to look like a football field and a personalized Jersey just for him.
This cake was created by Cakes by Tony.

This Groom loved soccer and beer. In fact, the entire wedding was themed around the couple's love for craft beer. They even made and bottled their own beer to give as a wedding favor to their guests.
